Water from the mountains – global reanalysis and future tipping points

We recently kicked off MountAInWater, an ambitious research endeavor funded by Schmidt Sciences. This project produces the first first-ever global reanalysis of mountain water resources using high-resolution models, assessing the effects of climate change on these critical water supplies, and identifying potential tipping points in mountain environments.

To achieve this, the research consortium combines field work, physically-based modeling and AI. Institute of Science and Technology Austria leads the MountAInWater team with members from Utrecht University, University of Saskatchewan, ETH Zürich, Technical University of Munich, University of Lausanne, FutureWater, Wageningen University & Research, Climate Adaptation Services (CAS) and hydrominds

hydrominds co-lead a work package in the project identifying the hotspots of impact and conducting water resources modeling at those hotspots.

The team met at ISTA in Klosterneuburg, Austria, in March to get the work underway. We look forward to collaborate in this ambitious effort in the coming five years!
